Ffdshow is a media decoder and encoder used for fast and high quality decoding of video in the MPEG – 4 ASP. I’m sure that we all at some point tried to play a video in a player and was given an error saying that the player cannot find the correct codec to play this video type or unrecognized video extension. In a case like this it would have been good to have ffdshow up and running on your computer. Well today we are going to show you how to do this so read on to find out how.
Things you will need
- A working computer
- Ffdshow Software
Instructions
- Ensure that computer is powered on
- Double click on the ffdshow installation package
- Click next the ‘Select Components’ screen in the setup menu.
- Ensure that everything is ticked except Oscaler.
- Click Next.
- Repeat step 5 until you see the ‘Additional Tasks’ screen.
- Select all except MPEG – 1 and its sub folder libmpeg2.
- Click Next.
- Tick AAC
- Bullet lbfaad2
- Click Next.
- On the Compatibility Issues Screen select use ffdshow only in the following sections.
- Select the programs you want to use ffdshow.
- Click Next.
- When prompted, select a directory for the virtual dub plugins.
- Edit the programs configuration as desired.

- Ensure that the correct boxes are ticked in the configuration.
- Familiarize yourself with the software before attempting.

- Avoid using the deinterlacers without prior knowledge of its proper uses.
